Stomp Out Suicide is a 5K run/walk Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at Goodview Park in Wyoming, MN. The event will also include entertainment and activities for the whole family including live music from Sleeper and the Sleepless, a kids’ area and food vendors. Suicide awareness and mental health resources from several local organizations, including SAVE, will be available for individuals and families.
Stomp Out Suicide was created out of love and hope in memory of Alissa M. Haines, a popular, well-liked 15-year-old Wyoming resident who died by suicide December 29, 2011. A beloved daughter, sister, niece and friend, everyone adored Alissa. Because she suffered in silence, Alissa’s death by suicide was a shock to her family, friends and community.
Our goal is to encourage teens (and adults) who struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts to seek help from trusted friends, adults and mental health organizations before it’s too late. The Haines’ immediate and extended family as well as a large group of friends and fellow students suffered a great loss in the death of Alissa, and as a group are dedicated to helping prevent others from experiencing the incredible pain and grief associated with suicide.
